Jageshwar

Jageshwar is a small town of Almora district of Uttarakhand. It is mainly famous for Hindu pilgrimages. The temple city comprises of around 124 big and small stone temples, set up during 9th to 13th century AD, with many conserved by the authority of Archaeological Survey of India, which includes the Dandeshwar Temple, the Chandi-ka-Temple, the famous Jageshwar Temple, the Mritunjaya Temple, the Nanda Devi or Nau Durga, the Nava-grah temple, a Pyramidal shrine, and Surya Temple, amongst which the oldest one is the Mrityunjaya Temple and the biggest shrine is the Dandeshwar Temple. There is a huge popular mythological history behind these temples.

The mystical and tranquil setting of Jageshwar makes it an amazing holiday destination to explore and refresh the body and mind. Years ago, Jageshwar used to be a pilgrim resting place on the way to the famous Mansarovar pilgrimage. Today, due to easy access from Delhi via train to Kathgodam and then just a two to three hour drive along beautiful Kumaon villages and Deodar forest makes it a popular off-the-beaten kind of places to travel.

The refreshing deodar trees and the Jata Ganga which flows through the temple lends to the beautiful place. The place is also suitable for meditation center for calm, refreshing and beautiful atmosphere surrounding the temple area. Jageshwar is an all season pilgrimage and adventure destination. Summers are cool with surrounding forests and winters are cold with chances of snowfall as well.

By Air: The nearest airport for Jageshwar is Pantnagar. This Airport is located about 150 km away from Jageshwar. Cabs are also easily available to Jageshwar from the Pant Nagar Airport.

By Rail: Kathgodam is the nearest railway station to Jageshwar situated at a distance of about 125 km. Kathgodam is well connected with major destinations of India like Lucknow, Delhi and Kolkata. Train ae quite frequent as it is the gateway of Kumaon region. Buses and Taxis are easily available to Almora and Jageshwar from Kathgodam.

By Road: Jageshwar is well connected by roads with many major cities of Northern India. Buses to Hadwani and Almora can be taken from Anand Vihar, Delhi and the distance from Delhi is near about 400kms. Cabs to Jageshwar are easily available in Kumaon region.
