Badrinath

The town of Badrinath is among the most renowned religious towns of the Hindus which mainly lie on the Chamoli district of the state of Uttarakhand. Out of all of the four (Char) Dhams Badrinath is the most prominent town and is a place of religious importance. Badrinath town is situated between Naryana and Nar mountain ranges and is also covered in the shadow of the mighty peak of Nilkantha which is 301 kms away from the north of the town of Rishikesh. The pilgrimage town of Badrinath lies at an elevation of around 3,133 mts at the left side on the banks of Alaknanda River.

According to legend, the temple was established originally by Adi Shankaracharya which was later on renovated various times after it got established. The town of Badrinath also comes among one of the oldest Panch Badris. The remaining four Badris are Bhavishya Badri, Adi Badri, ‘Old Badri’ or the Bridha Badri and Yogadhyan Badri.

The town’s main attraction is the holy temple of Badrinath which is also known by the name Badrinarayan temple. The temple is dedicated to the great Lord Vishnu and is also among the 108 different Divya Desams or the holy shrines of Vaishnavities. Presently the temple is in conical shape which was built two centuries ago through the ancient kings of Garhwal. The temple comprises of 15 different idols with each built through black stone. Lord Vishnu is also represented here in a meditative posture and is also flanked by Narayan and Nar. Various other attractions include the Neekanth Peak and the Tapt Kund.

By Road: Badrinath is well connected to all the prominent towns of Uttarakhand through motorable roads. Buses and taxis are available from the cities of Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Srinagar, Ukimath, etc.

By Train: Rishikesh is the nearest accessible railway station to the town of Badrinath. The Railway station Rishikesh is located at a distance of 295kms away from the town on NH58. Rishikesh is well connected with major Indian cities.

By Air: To reach Badrinath you can also hire taxis from the jolly Grant Airport which is well linked with Delhi at a distance of around 314kms. The airport of Jolly Grant is well linked with motorable roads to Badrinath town.
