Situated near the beautiful town of Uttarkashi in the Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, this place is a paradise for trekkers and nature lovers. Nestled amidst the dense Oak and Pine vegetation Nachiketa Tal is surely a place to savor all the delights of nature. The untarnished lake town is located at a breathtaking altitude of 2493mts above the sea level, in the eastern part of Uttarkashi district. The pristine site of Nachiketa Tal covers a total area of 600 sqkm with its wonderful lush green fields.
To reach Nachiketa Tal, travellers would need to go through a steep hike of around 3 kms that would take you to thick forests and leads towards Nachiketa Tal. The name of this lake is derived from the name Nachiketa, who was Saint Uddalak’s son. It is said that the lake was created by Nachiketa, hence the lake got named after Nachiketa. A small temple of Nag Devta is also located nearby the lake and villagers arrive here on the occasion of Nagpanchami every year for worshipping and holy dip.
Nature lovers and hikers would love this place with the giant panoramic views of the Bandarpooch mountain peaks. The place is frequently visited by a large number of College/school students in summer and autumn breaks. It’s basically up to the travellers whether they want to trek from the town of Uttarkashi or from Chaurangikhal which is only 3 kms from Nachiketa Tal. The beautiful spot of Nachiketa Tal can be visited anytime during the year but rainy months aren’t suggested due to bad weather and landslides.

By Air: Jolly Grant airport at Dehradun is the nearest airport to the town of Uttarkashi which is at a distance of 155kms from the town. Daily flights connect the town to major cities of India.
By Rail: Rishikesh and Dehradun are the nearest railheads with locations at about 147 and 160 kms away from the Uttarkashi town. Rail networks are connected to most of the Indian cities making it easy to reach there.
By Road: The site can be simply accessed as the region of Garhwal is inter-linked through motorable roads for major Indian cities. The journey can be commenced through boarding buses at Delhi Kashmiri Gate ISBT to reach Uttarkashi. From Uttarkashi travellers can hire taxis till Chaurangikhal which is 30 km away from Uttarkashi town.
