Being the headquarters of Pauri Garhwal District it is named after the town’s popularity.

The town of Pauri is basically a hidden jewel with some of the most beautiful sunset scenes to watch in whole of Uttarakhand. Sunset at Pauri would occasionally manifest a range of colors with dominating fiery orange trace. On a sunny and clear day peals such as Swargarohini, Jogin Group, Neelkanth, Trisul, Hathiparvat, Chaukhamba, Sumeru, Kedarnath, Gangotri Group and Bander Punchh can clearly be seen from the town.

The weather of Pauri is sub-temperate climate which would remain unpleasant annually except at the time of winters when the temperature is harshly cold. The town would also receive snowfall the time of winters that completely transforms it to its best scenic form. Some interesting places for visiting around in the town are the Kandoliya Mandir, Kyunkaleshwar Temple, Hanuman Mandir, Dhara Road, Khirsu, Nag-dev Evergreen Forest, District Library, Chaukhamba View Point, etc.

By Road: The town of Pauri is well linked with a number of motor-able roads with destinations of Uttarakhand state. The state buses to Kotdwar and Pauri are simply available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Delhi. Travellers can avail buses and taxis from all the major towns of Uttarakhand. The town is well linked with the National highway 119.

By Train: Kotdwara is the nearest railway station which is well linked with rest of Indian cities. Pauri is well connected by motorable roads with Kotdwar. Taxis and buses are easily available from Kotdwar to Pauri.

By Air: The nearest Airport to the town of Pauri is the Jolly Grant Airport which is situated at a distance of about 133 kms. Taxis are available from Jolly Grant Airport to Rishikesh, Devprayag and Pauri.
